According to a new report, Rami Malek from Bohemian Rhapsody may be getting a shot at spear-heading the James Bond series after much controversy surrounding Craig’s departure and his possible replacement. Following Rami’s Oscar win, the star said in an interview that he’d be honored to take a role in the franchise.

However, it won’t be as Mr. Bond. Rami will likely play the role of a villain instead. During a conversation with Entertainment Tonight, the star said to play in a James Bond movie would be “like a dream role” for him.

When speaking with Lauren Zima at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, Malek revealed that he’d love to portray the bad guy in a Bond movie. He said it’d be “nice.” The breakout star added that playing a Bond villain would be an actor’s dream, and he’s so grateful for being able to play the people he has thus far.

According to Malek, he’s doing his best to say as little as possible about the project, and nothing has been confirmed really, so he’s just holding out and waiting for producers to formally request he play the part.

In a report from Variety, the outlet claims Rami was in talks to be the Bond villain but it hasn’t been confirmed. There were scheduling conflicts with the movie he’s preparing for now, Mr. Robot.

Due to the fact, Mr. Robot had been postponed, there is a chance that he can get back on board as soon as possible. Reportedly, Mr. Cary Joji Fukunaga will be the director of the 4th installment, and this marks Daniel Craig’s fifth time in total.

There have been 25 James Bond movies thus far in the franchise’s history, with Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan, Daniel Craig, Timothy Dalton, and Roger Moore being some of the most iconic men to take on the character.

What’s amazing about the James Bond franchise is the fact it has lasted for so long and through so many different eras. The very first Bond film featured Sean Connery as the eponymous main character in 1962’s Dr. No.
