Miss Arkansas, Savvy Shields, Is Crowned #MissAmerica 2017

Savvy Shields, from Arkansas, is officially crowned Miss America 2017!

The Miss America competition was held live in Atlantic City, New Jersey on September 11, 2016. Out of 8,000 contestants, 52 women made it to the live competition.

The judges this year were Gabby Douglas, Ciara, Laura Marano, Cole Swindell, Sharlene Wells Hawkes, Sara Foster, and Mark Cuban.

For the swimsuit portion, Shields wore black swimwear by Irene West. The swimsuit portion counted for 10% of the competition. She also wore an elegant black gown for the evening wear portion of the competition, which counted for 30% of her overall score.

For the talent portion, Miss Arkansas danced to jazz song “Just Keep Moving The Line” from NBC Smash. Judge Gabby Douglas then asked Shields her opinion on Presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton for the questions segment.

The 2016 Miss America winner, Betty Cantrell, then handed over the crown to Savvy Shields, as she took the title of Miss America 2017. Apart from the crown, Shields will also be going home with a $50,000 scholarship!
