A man dressed as a clown and wielding an axe allegedly forced his way into a Sydney home and assaulted a man living there.

Eric Field says he “could have ended up dead” during the terrifying ordeal at around 8pm on Thursday in Glenfield in the city’s west.

He and girlfriend Priyansha were watching a film when the man was said to have followed Mr Field’s mother and aunt into the home. CCTV has captured a black SUV lurking near the home.

“I heard my mother call my boyfriend’s name and that’s when he opened the door and you could see the guy coming in with a clown mask on holding an axe up in his left hand,” Priyansha told Channel 9.

Mr Field said there was “screaming, thumping and things banging”. He was then allegedly hit with the blunt end of the axe.

He managed to rip the clown mask off the man who then said “do you remember me?”

Mr Field’s mother and aunt also said they suffered injuries during the bizarre attack. The man then fled.
